In 2018, Tommi became the first person in the history to win a Championship as both a driver and as a team principal (Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT). Tommi Mäkinen will step away from his role as the team manager at Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team at the end of 2020 and will become an advisor for the Japanese manufacturer starting next Toyota Gazoo Racing has announced its 2021 World Rally Championship line-up, and whilst the drivers will remain the same, team principal Tommi Mäkinen will move to a new role, with Jari-Matti Latvala taking up his role. *Tommi Mäkinen: Made his rally debut in 1985.
